Pvt. Henry Hartwick

 

Henry Hartwick Killed in Action

Pvt. Henry Hartwick, 32, was killed in action in the European area on Christmas Day, his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hartwick, sr., 631 Granger ave., have been informed by the war department. He was previously reported missing in action.

Mr. Hartwick was a graduate of Lincoln High school, attended Drake university and for 10 years was employed by the Walter E. Battlefield advertising agency. He entered military service in April 1944, and went overseas in November.

Besides his parents, he is survived by his widow, Mrs. Dorothy Hartwick, a member of the air-WACs, stationed at Peterson field, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a brother, Staff Sergt. Harry Hartwick, overseas, and a sister Barbara Hartwick, Des Moines.

Claude Henry Hartwick was born June 21, 1912 to Henry and Edna Blanche Simpson Hartwick. He died Dec. 25, 1944 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-sur-Mer, France.

Pvt. Hartwick served in World War II with the U.S. Army and was KIA in the English Channel and was awarded the Purple Heart.
