Obituary:
Loren G. Hinds, 78, formerly of Stratford, Iowa passed away at his home in Boone on Sunday, October 5, 1997 due to congestive heart failure.
He was born on August 8, 1919 in Thomson, Illinois the son of Glenn and Lucy (Sanburn) Hinds.
On March 8, 1951 he married Harriett Olson at the Calvary United Methodist Church in Stratford, Iowa.
Loren was a 1936 graduate of Stanhope High School in Stanhope, Iowa. He was a veteran of World War II serving in the Army in the communications division.
In 1946, he joined his father in his farming operation. He continued farming on his own, south of Stratford, until 1975, when he was forced to retire due to ill health. In November of 1960, the couple moved to Boone to make their home.
He was a member of the Stratford Lutheran Church, American Legion Frederick Sonksen Post #576, Order of the Eastern Star Avon Chapter #504, served as past Master of the Masonic Lodge Acron Chapter #601 where he was a 50 year member.
His parents and one sister preceded him in death.
Survivors include his wife Harriett of Boone, IA; 3 daughters and sons-in-law Lorenda and Russel Glade of Ocheyedan, IA; Lori and Frank Nutting of Milo, IA; Luann and Peter Gilman of Hiawatha, IA; 8 grandchildren; 1 brother Maurice Hinds of Joplin, MO, nieces and nephews.
Services were held on Wednesday morning October 8th at the Stratford Lutheran Church with Pastor Tom Hungerford officiating.
Interment will be in the South Marion Cemetery south of Stratford.
Stark-Welin Funeral Directors in Stratford was in charge of the arrangements.
