Pfc. Edward B. Hamre Killed on March 17

JEWELL—Word has been received that Pfc. Edward B. Hamre, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hamre, was killed in action in Germany, March 17. The soldier, who graduated from Jewell high school last spring, volunteered for service shortly before his graduation and entered service last summer. He was sent overseas only a couple months ago serving on the German west front in the First division of the First army.

Plan Memorial for Pfc. Edward Hamre

Memorial services will be held in Jewell Sunday at the Bethesda Lutheran church for Pfc. Edward B. Hamre, who was killed in action in Germany March 17, 1945.

The services will begin at 2:30.

Private Hamre was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Ben Hamre of Jewell.

Edward Benton Hamre was born Apr. 25, 1926 to Ben and Edna Hamre. He died Mar. 17, 1945 and is buried in the Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands Plot: H Row: 14 Grave: 3.

Edward served with the First U.S. Army, 26th Infantry Regiment, 1st Infantry Division. He was killed in action in Germany and awarded the Purple Heart.
