Merle Wayne Gunderson was born Dec. 22, 1920 to Gunval and Christina Gunderson. He died July 23, 2012 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Rowan, IA.
Sgt. Gunderson was a courier for the U.S. Army in World War II. He took great pride in the role he played carrying messages via motorcycle through North Africa and Europe. He was awarded one Silver and 7 Bronze Stars.
