Mr. and Mrs. F. J. Gronemeyer received word recently that their son, Pvt. Lyle Gronemeyer had arrived safely in New Guinea.

Lyle Gronemeyer Funeral Services are Monday
Lyle F. Gronemeyer, 67, Norfolk, Neb., formerly of Le Mars, died Thursday (June 9,1983) at Lutheran Community Hospital, Norfolk, after an extended illness.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at Christ The Servant Lutheran Church, 1100 E. Benjamin, Norfolk. Pastor Dave Kramer of Norfolk will officiate. Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Craig. Military rites will be by American Legion post 724 of Brunsville. Funeral arrangements are under direction of the Home For Funerals, 1203 Norfolk Ave., Norfolk. Friends and relatives may meet with the family from 3 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
Lyle Frederick Gronemeyer was born April 30, 1916, in Preston Township, Plymouth County, to Fred J. and the late Karoline Marienau Gronemeyer. He was a veteran of World War 2, serving with the 8th Cavalry Division in the South Pacific. He married Ella Hatton of Le Mars Oct. 6,1947, at Kingsley. They farmed in the Craig and Merrill areas until moving to Hooper, Colo., in 1963. Mrs. Gronemeyer died Oct. 6,1966, at Hooper. He returned to Le Mars in 1969 and was employed as head groundsman at Westmar College. He retired due to ill health in December 1981 when he moved to Norfolk and made his home with and daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Rob Weber. He was a member of Christ The Servant Church in Norfolk and a member of McHale-Heeren-Wilken American Legion Post 724, Brunsville.
Survivors are two sons, Frederick A. and wife Shirley Gronemeyer of Swink, Colo., and Donald C. Gronemeyer and wife Sue of Columbus, Neb.; a daughter, Mary Weber and her husband, Rob of Norfolk; his father, Fred J. Gronemeyer, Le Mars; two granddaughters, Megan and Molly Weber of Norfolk, and a grandson, Matthew of the Canary Islands; a brother, Wendall Gronemeyer of rural Ireton; three sisters, Mrs. Herman (Loris) Heeren and Mrs. Rudy (Velma) Dreckman, both of Le Mars, and Mrs. Francis (Velgene) Hazel, Akron.
He was preceded in death by his mother in 1957 and his wife in 1966.
