George Gerald Grimes was born Dec. 27, 1915 to Forrest B. and Minnie Kline Grimes. He died Dec. 11, 1943 and is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands and in Coal Glen Cemetery, Lucas County, IA.
Lt. Grimes served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 67th Bomb Squadron, 44th Bomber Group, Heavy and was KIA/FOD/KIA in the European area. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters and Purple Heart.
