Sgt. Owen Kenneth Flygstad

 

 

 

Owen Kenneth Flygstad was born Nov. 1, 1914 to Oscar and Ida Anderson Flygstad. He died Nov. 13, 2004 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, IA.

Sgt. Flygstad served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 496th Anti-Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion.

Owen Flygstad, age 90, of Jewell, died Saturday, Nov. 13, 2004 at Rolling Green Village in Nevada, Iowa. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2004 at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell with Rev. W. Michael Werner to officiate. Burial with military honors will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Jewell. Friends may call Monday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell. Memorials may be given to Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell or Rolling Green Village in Nevada.

Owen Kenneth Flygstad was born November 1, 1914 in Jewell to Oscar and Ida (Anderson) Flygstad. Owen served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On August 8, 1954 Owen married Erma Bell Dutcher in Dayton, Iowa. Owen delivered propane fuel for the Ellsworth-Williams Co-operative. He was a member of Bethesda Lutheran Church and past member of the American Legion in Jewell.

Owen is survived by his wife, Erma of Jewell; two daughters, Lural Lee of Nevada and Saundra Covarrubias Troup of Jewell; six grandchildren, Justin Lee, Kayla Lee, Ashlyn Lee, Jorge Covarrubias, Jordon Troup, and Cassie Troup; a sister, Ione Butler of Webster City; and two brothers, Orlyn Flygstad of Cherokee Village, Arkansas and Wayne Flygstad of Cheyenne, Wyoming.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
