Mrs. Ruth Ewing of this city has received a letter from her son, Cpl. Walter Ewing, who is located in the South Pacific area, stating that he is well and getting along all right. The letter had been written July 16, and it is believed that the corporal had taken part in the invasion of Saipan in the Marianas.

Lee Roy and Ruth Elizabeth Amundson Ewing had three sons serving their country in World War II: Walter Edgar, Richard Everet, and Donald Roy.

Walter Edgar Ewing was born Aug. 20, 1921. He died Jan. 18, 1987 in Columbus, OH.

Cpl. Ewing served with the U.S. Marine Corps in the Tarawa, Saipan and Titian campaigns. He was the leader of a demolition and flame thrower squad and was awarded a Bronze Star.
