Flight Officer Robert L. Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Evans of this city, has been assigned to the “Tiger Stripe” group of the Ninth air force and is now flying bombing missions from a French air field formerly occupied by the Germans, the Freeman-Journal has been notified in a dispatch direct from Ninth air force headquarters The Webster City flier, a bombardier, is serving with the B-26 Marauder group which is now flying tactical missions to Siegfried line strong points, ammunition dumps, railroad yards and bridges.

Robert Lyle Evans was born Feb. 3, 1924 to Ralph E. and Hazel Irene ‘Irene’ Evans. He died June 19, 2006 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Flight Officer Evans was a bombardier-navigator with a B-26 crew.
