Lyle Everett Espeland

 

 

 

Lyle Everett Espeland was born Aug. 29, 1923 to Levi and Evelyn J. Halvorson Espeland. He died Dec. 10, 2003 and is buried in Evergreen Cemetery, Jewell, IA.

Lyle served with the U.S. Army in World War II with the 144th Field Artillery Group, Seventh Army in Germany as an airplane mechanic. He was awarded the Good Conduct and EAME ribbon with three bronze stars.

Obituary:

Lyle Espeland, age 80, a former Ellsworth resident, died December 10, in North Carolina. Funeral services were held December 15, 2003 at Becker Funeral Home in Jewell.

Lyle Everett Espeland was born in Roland, Iowa on August 23, 1923 to Levi and Evelyn (Halvorson) Espeland. He was a veteran of World War II serving as an airplane mechanic. Lyle returned to Ellsworth and helped his father in the egg produce business. On June 16, 1946 Lyle married Carol Mae Knudson at Bethesda Lutheran Church in Jewell. They lived and worked in Ellsworth for many years. Lyle was known for his work with the church and his love of God. He loved to sing, work in the yard, and spend time with his family.

Lyle is survived by his daughter, Priscilla Ann Skare of Wilmington, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Carol Mae in 1989, and a brother, Arthur in 1990.
