Neal Gilbert Delmege was born Oct. 4, 1925 to Harry W. and Isabel Shanklin Delmege. He died Jan. 24, 1945 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.
Petty Officer Delmege served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Ommaney Bay (CVE-79) which was hit by a Japanese suicide plane that crashed into her flight deck and two bombs were released. He was MIA/FOD/KIA after the sinking of his ship in the Sulu Sea and was awarded the Purple Heart.
