Sgt. Marvin John DeWitt

 

 

The Purple Heart, posthumously awarded to Sgt. Marvin J. DeWitt, has been received by his wife, Evelyn, 1114 First avenue NE.  Sgt. DeWitt was killed in action in Germany, April 10, when the vehicle he was driving struck a land mine.  He was buried in Holland.

Marvin John DeWitt was born Apr. 7, 1920, Sioux City, Iowa, to Alvin E. and Margaret A. Waters DeWitt. He died Apr. 10, 1945 and is buried in Netherlands American Cemetery, Margraten, Netherlands.

Sgt. DeWitt served in World War II with the U.S. Army 506th Military Police Battalion and died while in the service of his country. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
