Robert De Kraay who is in the Navy arrived home from the G.L.N.T. (Great Lakes Naval Training) station on Tuesday evening to spend a nine day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry De Kraay after which he will be sent to school for some time.

Robert De Kraay, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry De Kraay of Sioux Center, is in training at San Diego after completing his basic training at Great Lakes. He previously had one year’s work in pharmacy at the South Dakota State College, Brookings, before reaching his 18th birthday.

4 Sioux Centerites meet in San Diego
Lt. John Wesselink, Joe Franken and Bob De Kraay who are all stationed in San Diego, Calif. enjoyed a dinner at the Franken home there last Sunday evening which was prepared by Mrs. Franken who is staying with her husband. Bob De Kraay who is attending hospital corpsman school there was working that day, but Lt. Wesselink went to the main office and got permission to take him with them, and a very enjoyable evening was spent together.

Robert De Kraay will graduate on Thursday from his 12 weeks of training at the hospital corpsman school at San Diego and will be moved to Los Angeles, Calif. where he will receive further training at the hospital. He spent the past weekend with Jackie Oliver who is also stationed at San Diego.

Another new address is the following one for Robert De Kraay H.A. 2/c, U.S.N.T.C. Main Dental Clinic, San Diego, Calif. Bob has been transferred from the naval hospital at Long Beach to the San Diego hospital where he attends school in the morning and works in the Dental Clinic in the afternoon.

Mrs. Henry De Kraay and her sister Miss Etta De Kraay of Orance City left for Long Beach, Calif. on Friday to spend a few weeks with Robert De Kraay who received a broken leg in a motorcycle accident just a few days before receiving his discharge from the Navy. He has been hospitalized for the past month.

Robert Dean De Kraay was born May 6, 1926 in LeMars, Iowa, and was living in Sioux Center, Iowa prior to entering the Navy on April 23, 1944 at Des Moines, Iowa. He served with the USNH in Long Beach, Calif., the NTO in San Diego, Calif. and the HDQTRS Co. Service Bn. Marine Brks. Camp Pendleton, Oceanside, Calif. He was honorably discharged on June 3, 1947. His application for bonus pay was filed on June 8, 1949, for which he received a $320.00 bonus.
