John W. De Groot will trade southern California for good old Iowa snow banks any day

Dear Friends:         Camp Roberts
Well Christmas and New Year holidays have passed by and I certainly want to thank the business girls of Sioux Center for their swell present. It kind of makes me homesick to think of you folks back home. It certainly didn’t seem like Christmas to me without the snow.

Well, they certainly keep us busy out here. They got us coming and going over these hills. At present I am working on the K. D. rifle range firing the M-1 rifle.

I felt pretty good last Sunday. I went to the 89th Inf. Tng. Bn. and there I met James Tamminga, Wilbur Huisman, Gerald Vermeer and Nick Draayer so now I don’t feel quite so lonely.

But as far as sunny California is concerned they may keep it – just give me Iowa, with her good old snow banks. I sure miss them. Well, it’s about time for the old Sergeant to holler “lights out” so I better close. Thanks to everyone for the cards and letters. I certainly appreciate them.
