Donald A. DeFrance was born Sept. 9, 1922 to Leon E. and Luella May Best DeFrance. He died Aug. 16, 2004 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery, Webster City, IA.

Donald served with the U.S. Army in World War II.

Obituary:

Donald A. DeFrance, passed away in San Jose, CA, on August 16, 2004. Born 9/9/22 in Webster City, IA, moving to Boone, IA, as a child. Resident of Boone until a move to San Jose, CA, in 1946.

Donald was preceded in death by his son, Michael A. DeFrance.

He is survived by his son Brian DeFrance, and two daughters, Donna Starback (Ken) and Denise Fox, (Richard), nine grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. He is also survived by lifetime friend, and former wife, Shirley DeFrance.

A veteran of WWII, retired employee of H.M. Gousha Map Company, and owner (retired) of DeFrance Hobby Shop. Long active in music circles in the area, serving as Choir Director of St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Asst. Dir. of San Jose Municipal Chorus, Asst. Director of South Valley Symphony, Asst. Director of The Villages Concert Band, member of the Buddy King and the Joe Ferrari Dance Bands. Lifetime member of the Musicians Union, Local #153.
