Francis Albert Crawford was born Jan. 24, 1918 to Stephen Leroy and Alice Myrl Ziegler Crawford. He died June 22, 1945 and is buried in Oakland Cemetery, Centerville, IA.
Lt. Crawford served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II. He was a fighter pilot and survived many air battles over France and Germany. He died while on leave in Branson, MO from “sudden cardiac arrest”, though it is believed he may have fallen victim to a pulmonary embolism caused by the prolonged flight back across the Atlantic Ocean from Europe.
