Benjamin Franklin Coon

 

Benjamin Franklin “Franklin” Coon was born Jan. 7, 1918 to Orvis H. and Margaret Priscilla Millage Coon. He died Oct. 24, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Petty Officer Coon served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Canopus (AS-9), was MIA and died when Arisan Maru, transporting Allied POWs from the Philippines to Japan, was sunk by USS Shark (SS-314). He was awarded the Purple Heart.
