William James ‘Bill’ Chambers was born July 28, 1924 to Michael Joseph and Agnes Berry Chambers. He died Apr. 30, 2008, and is buried in Riverside Cemetery, Spencer, Iowa.
Pvt. Chambers served with the U.S. Army in World War II.
William (Bill) James Chambers, the son of Michael Joseph and Agnes (Berry) Chambers, was born July 28, 1924 in Webster City, Iowa. He received his early education and graduated from the Webster City High School. Bill then continued his education at Iowa Teachers College where he received his teaching degree and later earned a Masters Degree from Las Angels (?) State College.
Bill served the U.S. Army during W.W. II from 1943 to 1945.
Bill married Jenne Bircher on August 14, 1946 in Cedar Falls, Iowa. Following their marriage, Bill taught in Greenfield, Iowa, Hartley, Iowa, California and then they moved to Spencer where he taught Industrial Arts and coached the Spencer Golf Team.
On August 15, 1982, Bill married Colleen Gross.
Bill was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, American Legion, D.A.V. and the N.E.A. He also officiated for basketball and wrestling and Bill continued to assist the Spencer Golf Team. Bill enjoyed working with the helping kids, he also enjoyed spending time with his family at their lake home.
Bill passed away on April 30, 2008 at the Spencer Hospital at the age of 83. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Jenne in 1979; one infant daughter; 3 brothers and 3 sisters.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Colleen of Spencer, IA; his daughter, Janis Chambers of Farmington, NM; 2 sons: James Chambers and his wife, Thess of the Philippines Islands and Robert (Andy) Chambers of Naples, FL; 7 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
SERVICES
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday, Nov 3, 2008 at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Spencer.
