Capt. Richard Earl Carberry

 

 

 

Richard Earl “Father Dick” Carberry was born Oct. 15, 1904 to James Henry “Jimmy” and Mary Ann “Molly” Walsh Carberry. He died Dec. 15, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Capt. Carberry served in World War II with the U.S. Army 45th Infantry Regiment, Philippine Scouts. He was MIA and became a POW of the Japanese after the fall of Corregidor. He was later listed as KIA after he was killed while being transported aboard a Japanese vessel. He was buried at sea and awarded the Purple Heart. He was also awarded the Bronze Star and Silver Star with Oak Leaf Cluster.
