Arnold Herman Buns was born Nov. 28, 1919 to John E. and Bertha S. Baake Buns. He died Feb. 28, 1942 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Bingham Township Cemetery, Woden, IA.
Petty Officer Buns served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Houston (CA-30) and was MIA/KIA when that ship was sunk in the Battle of Sunda Strait near Java. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
