Robert James Bennett

 

 

Robert James Bennett was born Sept. 11, 1923 to Jack and Myrna M. Bennett. He died Dec. 7, 1941 and is memorialized at the USS Oklahoma Memorial, Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Petty Officer Bennett served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Oklahoma (BB-37) and was MIA/KIA. His remains were never identified**[see IDENTIFIED update below] but he is listed as one of the approximately 390 unknowns from that ship that have been buried in mass graves at the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific.

**Through the work of the Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency, the remains of Fireman 3rd Class Robert J. Bennett were accounted for in 2018. His name is permanently inscribed in the “Courts of the Missing” at the Honolulu Memorial.

When in individual’s remains have been accounted for by the U.S. Dept. of Defense, a rosette is placed next to the name on the Wall/Tablet/Court of the Missing to mark that the person now rests in a known gravesite.

Petty Officer Bennett was buried Feb. 4, 2019 in the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific, Honolulu, Hawaii.
