Sgt. Bernard C. Brown

 

 

Bernard C. Brown was born May 24, 1915 to Martin and Metta Fansen Brown. He died Sept. 24, 1943 and is buried in Elk Horn Cemetery, Elk Horn, IA.

Sgt. Brown served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a radio operator on RB-34 Ventura #AJ405 and died when the twin-engine bomber had an engine failure on takeoff roll at the Coast Guard Air Station, Port Angeles, Washington, and veered off the runway and struck a concrete structure and burst into flames, killing five airmen.
