William Theodore “Ted" Branstad was born Jan. 18, 1910 to Peter Endre and Betsy Olena Carlson Branstad. He died Jan. 27, 1944 and is memorialized at the Walls of the Missing, Taguig City, Philippines and has a cenotaph in Forest Home Cemetery, Leland, IA.
Sgt. Branstad served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 498th Bomber Squadron, 345th Bomber Group, Medium and was MIA/KIA/FOD over New Guinea as a crew member of a B-25 on a bombing mission from Southeastern New Guinea to Dagua in Norther New Guinea. He was awarded the Purple Heart and Air Medal.
