Cpl. Bickford served with the U.S. Navy in World War II with a Naval Construction Battalion.

Neil Bickford, 79, Webster City, died Wednesday, Sept. 2 at the Crestview Manor Care Center. Funeral services will be Friday at 1:30 p.m. at the Asbury United Methodist Church with Rev. Mike Morgan officiating. Burial will be in the Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Foster Funeral Home from 5-9 p.m. Thursday and prior to the service at the church on Friday. Graveside military rites will be conducted by American Legion Post #191.
Neil Eldon Bickford, son of Gale and Carrie Smith Bickford, was born June 12, 1919 at Amboy, MN. He attended Webster City schools, graduating from Lincoln High in 1937. He worked for McMurray Hatchery. On May 14, 1938, he married Edna Maxine Julius at Forest City. The couple resided in Webster City. He worked for Railway Express. For many years he was a plumber in the Webster City area. He retired in 1989. During WW II he served with the U.S. Navy - Seabees in the Pacific Theatre of Action. He has resided at Crestview Manor since December of 1994.
He is survived by his wife, Maxine; a son and daughter-in-law, Jack and Yvonne Bickford of Estes Park, CO, daughters and sons-in-law, Sally and Sherman Schroder of Cedar Rapids, Sue and Jon Doolittle, Webster City; grandchildren Janna Axline, Jeff Bickford, Brad Schroder, Dan and Kendall Doolittle; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Lida Mack of Clarion; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Scott Bickford, and a brother, Lyle Bickford.
He was a member of Asbury United <Methodist Church and was a former church board member.
