Sgt. Vernon Louis Bachman

 

 

 

Vernon Louis Bachman was born May 14, 1924 to Louis and Myrtle Taylor Backman. He died July 7, 1945 and is memorialized at the Manila American Cemetery and Memorial, Manila, Philippines.

Sgt. Bachman was a member of the 403rd Bomber Squadron “Mareeba Butchers", 43rd Bomber Group “Ken’s Men", Heavy with the U.S. Army’s Fifth Air Force in World War II. He was a gunner on a B-24 that crashed while helping ground troops at Belete Pass (also known as Dalton Pass) in northern Luzon, Philippines. He was awarded a Purple Heart and Air Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster.
