Capt. Graham Harold "Andy" Andrews

 

 

Graham Harold “Andy” Andrews was born Jan. 25, 1920 to Harold and Hazel Graham Andrews. He died May 21, 2007 and is buried in Sacramento Valley National Cemetery, Dixon, CA.

Capt. Andrews served with the U.S. Army in World War II and Korea. He served as a medic at Sternberg General Hospital in Bataan. He was captured in Bataan, but escaped to Corregidor while participating in the “Bataan Death March”. He was captured May 6, 1942 with the fall of Corregidor to the Japanese. Internment during the war included Corregidor, Cabanatuan, Bilibid, Fukuoka and Jinsen (Inchon), Korea. Transported to Moji, Japan on the “Hell-Ships” Oryoku Maru, Enoura Maru and Brazil Maru, Andy was eventually liberated by American Forces at Inchon, Korea on Sept. 9, 1945. Andy re-enlisted and served with the 82nd Airborne. He volunteered for the 10th Special Forces Group, where he tested his skills in sky diving and glider flight. During the Korean conflict, he was a participant in the U.N. Partisan Forces, Korea. He retired from the Army in 1959 and was employed by the Naval Facilities Engineering Command and Dept. of the Army, serving at White Sands Missile Range, Guam, Pearl Harbor, NAS Lemoore and Frankfurt, Germany. He was a member of the VFW, Special Forces Association, American Ex-Prisoners of War, Military Officers Association of America and Association of Retired Federal Employees. He was also associated with the American Legion Post 0130.
