George LeRoy Anderson was born Jan. 13, 1924 to Melvin S. and Mabel Juel Anderson. He died Mar. 2, 2007 and is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery, Mason City, IA. 

Cpl. Anderson served in World War II with the U.S. Marine Corps. He served in Iwo Jima and was shot and critically wounded near Pitano Point by a Japanese sniper. He was a decorated and honorably discharged veteran having served with K Company, 27th Reserve Regiment, 5th Marine Division (Spearhead). His awards and honors include the Purple Heart, as well as numerous other medals and citations.
