Anderson, 20, Flier, Killed
Mrs. L. L. Witter, 1001 Lyon St., received word from the war department Thursday that her son, Lieut. Dale F. Anderson, 20, of the army air forces, was killed while flying a British Spitfire over Corsica Dec. 28.
Tuesday, Mrs. Witter heard in a radio news broadcast that Anderson had had an oak leaf cluster added to his air medal "for aerial patrol work in com- batting the submarine menace in the Northwest African theater.” This was the third time he had been decorated. Anderson was graduated from East High school and had lived in Des Moines all his life. He was a Register and Tribune carrier salesman, and was working for Globe Printing Co. when he went into the service in March, 1942.
He received his wings and was commissioned a second lieutenant at Moore Field, Nov. 10, 1942. Since then, he had been, promoted to first lieutenant. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 738, and a member of Capitol Hill Church of Christ. Besides his mother, he is survived by his father, Frank Anderson, 106 Fourth St. and one sister, Mrs. Leslie Carvour, 1209 E. Thirteenth St.

Dale F. Anderson was born Mar. 8, 1923 to Frank and Ethel Mae Witter Anderson. He died Dec. 28, 1943 and is buried in Highland Memory Gardens Cemetery, Des Moines, IA.
Lt. Anderson served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 52nd Fighter Group and was KIA in defense of his country.
