Clarence "Slim" Aardema arrived home on his first leave last week.  He has been in the service since July and has completed his boot training at Farragut, Idaho.  Clarence is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nonie Aardema of Sioux Center.

Farragut, Idaho. Oct. 2 -- Recently enrolled in an intensive course of study in the Gunners Mate school at this second largest U.S. Naval Training Station is Clarence Aardema, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nonie Aardema, Sioux Center, Iowa.  In this school, one of several operated by the Navy at Farragut, he will learn the newest methods used in this specialized branch of the Naval service, and my qualify for a petty officer rating upon successful completion of the course.

IN NAVY

Clarence Aardema
Clarence Aardema S 2/c, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nonie Aardema, entered the service on July 1, 1943. He received his boot training at Farragut, Idaho; from there he was sent to California. He has had one furlough in September.  Charles has now been assigned to a ship and expects to go out on sea duty soon.  Here is his address which is subject to change anytime.

Clarence Aardema, GM, 3/c USNR, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nonie Aardema of Sioux Center, Ia. has been aboard the U.S.S. WATTS, one of the new 2100 ton destroyers since she first went to sea until her present cruise as part of Admiral Halseys Carrier Task Force, in the waters off the Japanese homeland.  He attended Sioux Center Public High School until 1943.  He was advanced last May to third class petty officer, gunners mates division.  At general quarters he acts as pointer for one of the ship's 5" guns.
