George Dan Yocum

 

MEN AND WOMEN IN SERVICE

Dan Yocum, son of Mr. and Mrs. George Yocum, 3019 Summit street, has been promoted from the rank of bugler second class to petty officer first class.  He is serving on an aircraft carrier in the Pacific. He was graduated from Central high school in June, 1943.

IN UNIFORM

George D. Yocum, bugler first class, a crew member on the St. Lo, an aircraft carrier which was sunk in the battle of the Philippines October 25, has departed for the west coast for reassignment after spending a 30-day leave with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. George Yocum, 3019 Summit street. He wears four battle stars on his campaign ribbon. Another Sioux Cityan, Melvin Miller, radar man second class, also was a crew member of the St. Lo. Both were graduated from Central high school in 1943.

George Daniel “Dan” Yocum was born July 14, 1925 to George Harvey and Leone Case Yocum. He died June 20, 2000 and is buried in Bland Cemetery, Rogers, Arkansas.
