NEOLA – Mrs. John Talty has received word from the war department of the death of her son, Pfc. Norbert Talty, who died of wounds received on Negrea island May 19. He had been overseas 34 months. Pfc. Talty was graduated from St. Joseph’s high school in Neola in 1930. Surviving are his mother, four sisters, Mrs. John Masker, Mrs. Frank Ring, Mrs. Joe Grote and Miss Thelma Talty, and one brother, Clifton Talty, all of Neola.

Norbert Leo Talty was born Apr. 21, 1911 to John H. and Martha C. Waters Talty. He died May 19, 1945 and is buried in Manila American Cemetery, Taguig City, Philippines.

Pvt. Talty served in World War II with the U.S. Army 213th Field Artillery Battalion, 40th Infantry Division and was awarded the Purple Heart.
