Dale Leland Sparks, was born 15 July 1921, in Moville, Iowa, to Francis and Bessie Sparks. Dale graduated from Moville in 1938. His siblings are: Ivan, Marion, Gerald, Helen, Mildred, Burton, Jay and Leone. Three brothers, Ivan, Gerald and Jay served in WWII. Dale tried to enlist, but was rejected for flat feet, then when they needed more men in 1944, he was drafted.
Dale was drafted 13 October 1942, and was discharged 12 March 1946 at Camp Grant, Illinois.
Dale earned four overseas service bars, one service stripe, the American Campaign Medal, the European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal, the Good Conduct Medal, and The World War II Victory Medal.
Dale served as an air craft mechanic. He trained in Amarillo and Seattle. He went overseas to Fleetwood, England. After the war, he farmed in Moville, before moving to Stewartville, Minnesota. He retired as an airplane mechanic.
Dale married Vera Smith in Fleetwood, England, January 1945. He was discharged in 1946. Their children are Margaret, Theresa, and Greg.
