Captain Sandquist Dies in Italy
Capt. Donald Sandquist, 33, son of Mrs. W. T. Sandquist, 406 Randall street, died in Italy May 25, according to a war department telegram received Wednesday by his wife, Dora Sanquist, Kensett, Ia. No other details of the officer’s death were given.
Captain Sandquist, stationed with a quartermaster corps in the 10th division of the Fifth army, had been overseas since last December. He entered service in July, 1942, before which he was assistant manager of the Florsheim shoe store in Des Moines.
He was born Sept. 26, 1911, in Alliance, Neb., and came to Waterloo with his parents, Walter and Laura Sandquist, about 18 years ago.
He was graduated from East high school. On Oct. 19, 1934, he married Dora Wienieth at Nashua, Ia., the couple moving to Des Moines shortly afterwards.
Surviving are his wife and mother; a brother, Herbert Sandquist, stationed at a merchant marine school in Alameda, Cal., and a sister, Mrs. P. J. Durnan, Ossian, Ia.
Captain Sandquist’s father died about seven years ago.
