Pfc. Oren E. Ridnour
Killed In Normandy
Mr. and Mrs. John Ridnour, south of Corning on the Taylor county line, received a message last Thursday, July 27th, telling the sad news of the death of their son, Pfc. Oren Ellis (sic) Ridnour. He was killed in action, in France, on June 30th. Pfc. Ridnour was 36 years of age, entered the service in 1942, and left for overseas duty in August, 1943.
He received his initial training at Camp Polk, and left from Indiantown Gap, Penn. He has two brothers in the service, S. Sgt. Ralph Ridnour, member of a ground crew at Waco, Texas, and Pvt. Orville Ridnour, in Radio school at Camp Roberts, Calif.

Oren Ellsworth Ridnour was born Dec. 31, 1908 to John William and Blanche Elizabeth Leighton RIdnour. He died June 30, 1944 and is buried in Normandy American Cemetery, Colleville-Sur-Mer, France and memorialized at the Dallas Center Cemetery, New Market, IA.
Pvt. Ridnour served in World War II with the U.S. Army 36th Armored Infantry Regiment, 3rd Armored Division. He was awarded the Purple Heart.
