NEWS From Uncle Sam's Nephews and Nieces
From Corporal Robert R. Ramsdell, located with a headquarters company in New Guinea, comes a note to The Recorder, which is as follows: “As an old-time resident of Greene, and an enthusiastic reader of the Recorder, I wish to compliment you on your excellent column ‘Uncle Sam’s Nephews and Nieces.’ With reference to your editorial section of the April 26 issue, article titled ‘Encouragement Received’, I am merely trying to add a little more ‘encouragement.’ There is nothing like receiving news from home—and next to our letters from relatives and friends, comes the Recorder. And I’m sure I have the backing of every guy from in and around Greene, who may be overseas or in a United States camp. I have seen many home-town papers, but the Recorder tops them all, so let’s keep it that way! As you know, I am assigned to Base A, ‘somewhere in New Guinea.’ I read of so many cases where guys from Greene, by chance run into each other throughout the world, but I haven’t been that fortunate as yet. In closing, I’ll say, keep those Recorders coming: they are a great morale builder. And a hello to everyone.”
