VENTURA YANK DIES ON LUZON

S. Sgt. Swen Oswald Shared Unit Citation

Ventura - Mr. and Mrs. Sig Oswald received word from the war department of the death of their son, S. Sgt. Swen Oswald. He was serving with the 32nd infantry division, in northern Luzon, P. I.

Recently word had been received that Swen shared a citation awarded the 3rd battalion of the 127th infantry regiment for outstanding performance of duty in action against the enemy on Leyte island during an 8-day period.

Sgt. Oswald had been in service since August, 1942, and served through the Leyte campaign as platoon sergeant in company E. He also held the combat infantryman's badge, the good conduct medal, the Asiatic-Pacific ribbon and the Philippine liberation medal.

TO HONOR HERO

Memorial services for S/Sgt. Swen OSWALD, 24, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sig Oswald of near Ventura, will be held Sunday at 2 p. m. at Ellington Prairie Lutheran church northwest of Ventura, the Rev. Chester Olesen officiating. He was killed on Luzon July 21, 1945, after being in service 2 years and 10 months with the 32nd division. Mrs. C. Baker of Clear Lake is a sister. Other brothers and sisters are Jennie, Gordon, Inga and Alfred at home. He was in service in New Guinea, Leyte and Australia as well as Luzon.
