Sioux Rapids, Ia.—Mr. and Mrs. O. L. Menefee of Sioux Rapids have been informed that their son, S. Sgt. Fred O. Menefee, who was reported missing in action over Germany last fall, is a German prisoner. He was a B-17 gunner and had made 18 missions over naziland. The letter to the Menefees came from A. G. Lambert of Alexandria, Va., father of the squadron commander, Maj. Alfred G. Lambert, jr., who was with the crew when the plane went down.

Sgt. Menefee served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a ball turret gunner with the 333rd Bomber Squadron, 94th Bomber Group, Heavy and was shot down on a bombing mission on an oil refinery in Germany. He died from wounds received in the crash of his plane. He was awarded the Air Medal with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters.
Sgt. Menefee is buried in Ardennes American Cemetery, Neupre, Belgium.
