Capt. Sterling L. McClusky

 

 

DFC Awarded to Atlantic Man

ATLANTIC – Capt. Sterling L. McClusky, B-17 Flying Fortress pilot and squadron commander with the Eighth army air force in England, has been awarded the distinguished flying cross for a bombing attack on Rahmel, Germany, April 8. The Atlantic air man was commended by Col. Eugene A. Remig for his leadership and for setting a high standard of performance on the mission over the reich.

Capt. McClusky is a veteran of more than a score of combat missions and has received the air medal and three oak leaf clusters. He has been in the army air corps since April, 1941, and went overseas last fall.

Sterling Leo McClusky was born Jan. 3, 1917 to Harry G. and Harriet A. Gamble McClusky. He died Oct. 11, 1995 and is buried in East Lawn Palms Cemetery and Mortuary, Tucson, AZ.

Capt. McClusky served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps as a B-17 Flying Fortress pilot and squadron commander and was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three Oak Leaf Clusters.
