Cpl. Bill Lantaff was recently promoted to sergeant in the marines. He is stationed in the southwest Pacific area.

Bill Lantaff Among Marines Receiving Purple Heart

Advanced Pacific Base--Two Minnesota Marines and another from Iowa received Purple Hearts ...during recent ceremonies for Leatherne ... wounded in the Marianas Islands' campaigns. They are left to right above, Pfc. Clarence J. Figura, 29, St. Paul, Minn.; Sgt. William G. Lantaff, LeMars, Ia.; and Pfc. Robert L. Heinzen, Maple Plain, Minn. Decorations were presented by Maj. Geo. Thomas E. Watson, division commander, and Brig. Gen. LeRoy P. Hunt, assistant commander.

William George “Bill” Lantaff was born Aug. 7, 1919 to Alfred L. and Mary D. Clifford Lantaff. He died Feb. 10, 1988 and has a cenotaph in Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
