Pvt. Robert Kuyper Killed In Action on Luzon, May 8
Relatives in Hull received word Monday that Pvt. Robert Kuyper was killed in action on Luzon, May 8th (V-E Day).
The family had just recently received a nice letter from him, dated May 5th, and at that time he had not been in combat.
Pvt. Robert Kuyper is a son of Mrs. Josie Kuyper of Boyden. His father died of a heart attack in September, 1941. His wife, the former Lucy Van't Hul, and two sons Joey and Ronald mourn the loss of a devoted husband and father. The surviving brother and sisters are Mrs. (Esther) Rodney Gordon of Boyden, Harold and Shirley at home.
It was only last year on Decoration Day that all the relatives were at Boyden to bid good-bye to Robert, who left the following day for service, going to Camp Fannin, Texas. In January he was home on a furlough and in February went overseas.
Robert had a twin brother who died at the age of three months. The Joe Kuyper family were former Hull residents, moving to Boyden in 1929.

Word that Pvt. Robert Kuyper, husband of the former Lucy Van't Hul of Rock Valley had been killed in action on May 8, was received by his wife Monday. Pvt. Kuyper had been in the Philippines. His home is in Boyden, where his mother, Mrs. Joe Kuyper, lives.
Pvt. Kuyper had been town marshal in Boyden before going into the army about a year ago. He married Lucy Van't Hul, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gerb Van't Hul, now of Hull, about four years ago. There are two children, Joel, 3, and Ronnie, 2 years old. After going into the army, he was assigned to an infantry company, and went overseas into the Pacific area in February. He was killed on the day in which victory in Europe was declared officially.
