One Killed, Another Is Missing

Added to the casualty lists Tuesday was one Waterloo man killed and a former resident missing in action.

Pvt. Richard D. White, 36, was killed in France, and Tech. 5th Gr. Manus O. Jones is listed as missing in Germany.

T-5 Jones has been reported missing in action in Germany since Dec. 18, according to a telegram received by his wife, who with their 20-month-old son, Gary, reside with her parents Mr. and Mrs. Ross Habernicht, Route 1, Cedar Falls.

A former employee of the Rath Packing Co., Jones entered service in February, 1943, trained at Camp Polk, La., and went overseas in June, 1944.

His parents, Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jones, reside on Route 3, Cedar Falls, and his grandfather, George Rogers, is also a Cedar Falls resident. A brother, Wesley, is in the navy.

Manus O. Jones was born Sept. 10, 1923 to Leo Jay and Nellie Frances Gronning Jones. He died June 16, 1983 and is buried in Hillside Cemetery, Cedar Falls, IA.
