Moore Heads Recruiting

A. A. Holthus, chief petty officer of the local United States navy recruiting office, has received orders to report at the Des Moines station Wednesday morning to begin active duty. From Des Moines, Mr. Holthus will be sent to New Orleans where he will be stationed on a destroyer.

He formerly served on a battleship for 16 years. In 1916 he came to the Mason City recruiting office where he successfully directed recruiting of North Iowa men previous to the entry of the United States into war and during World War II.

Mr. Holthus will assume the title of chief electrician’s mate on board the destroyer.

His family will make their home temporarily in Mason City.

C. R. Moore, navy recruiter, will head the Mason City sub-station. He will be assisted by Thomas Hutchinson, who arrived two weeks ago from Des Moines to begin his duties.

Ben Wagner, yeoman, will continue to take charge of the secretarial work.
