LAWTON MAN IN 5th ARMORED DIVISION KILLED IN GERMANY

Pfc. Clifford Eberly, son of Mr. and  Mrs. Fred Eberly, Lawton, Ia., was killed in action in Germany March 31, while serving with the Fifth armored division of the United States Ninth Army.

Word of his death was received by his wife, the former Jean Davidson, now residing near Lawton.

Pfc. Eberly was born May 19, 1915, at Lawton. He was a graduate of the school there and a member of the Presbyterian Church.

He entered the service in November, 1943, and received his training at Fort Knox, Ky.  He went overseas in September, 1944.

Surviving besides the widow and parents are two sisters, Mrs. Gladys Weidel, Riverside, Cal., and Mrs. Genevieve Muller of Chicago, and a brother, Victor, of Lawton.

Clifford Burke Eberly is memorialized at the Tablets of the Missing, Epinal American Cemetery, Dinoze, France. He served in World War II with the U.S. Army 10th Tank Battalion, 5th Armored Division and was MIA/KIA and awarded the Purple Heart.
