KILLED IN ACTION
Word has been received from the war department that Pfc. Stuart M. Bates, son of Mrs. Gertrude M. Bates, 653 Franklin avenue, has been killed in action in the European theater of war.

NOTE: PFC Stewart M. Bates, born January 9, 1913, served with Company C, 756th Tank Battalion, 3rd Army Division of the 5th Army. He was killed in action January 24, 1945. He was interred overseas but there is a memorial gravestone for him in Oaklawn Cemetery, Oakland, Iowa. ~ findagrave.com
