Sgt. Lawrence K. Bass





Sgt. Lawrence K. Bass, 26, Marcus, reported “missing in action” in the north Africa area March 10, is safe in a transient prison camp in Italy, his parents were informed Tuesday, says the Cherokee Chief.

The good news, which came thru the Catholic apostolic delegate at Washington was transmitted to Bishop Edmond Heelan of Sioux City and then the Rev. E. L. McEvoy, at Marcus.

Sgt. Bass, the son of Mr. and Mrs. W. W. Bass, entered the service nearly two years ago.  He received his basic training at Camp Claiborne, La., and later was transferred to Fort Dix, N.J., before embarking for northern Ireland.

The telegram received by Sgt. Bass’ parents, March 10, reported that Sgt. Bass had been “missing in action” since February 17.  This was the engagement in which so many American soldiers were reported missing.
