NEWS From Uncle Sam's Nephews and Nieces
Corporal Technician Merland S. Austin, of Greene, who is a member of the post headquarters detachment at Fort Riley, Kansas, recently was awarded the “Good Conduct” ribbon for “exemplary behavior, efficiency and fidelity while serving as a member of the armed forces.” This announcement was made by the public relations department at Fort Riley. In accordance with present War Department practice, only the ribbon was presented to the soldiers cited for good conduct. After the war, the medal itself will be awarded to all persons who have received the ribbon. Merland is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Austin, of Greene.
