Walter Herman Hurley AKA Walter Herman Shoemaker was born Feb. 12, 1918 to George Arthur and Margaret Collins Shoemaker. His mother remarried Orville Hurley and Walter took his stepfather’s name and became Walter Herman Hurley. He died Sept. 21, 1944 and is buried in Florence American Cemetery, Impruneta, Italy.

Pvt. Hurley served in World War II with the U.S. Army 133rd Infantry Regiment, 34th Infantry Division and was KIA in Italy and awarded the Purple Heart.

James Elton Hurtt was born Jan. 29, 1924 to Thomas Jefferson and Martha Almira Goakey Hurtt. He died Feb. 24, 1949 and is buried in Oak Grove Cemetery, Lehigh, IA.

Sgt. Hurtt served with the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II.
