Hugh Wallace Breakenridge was born July 9, 1919 to William John and Edith Breakenridge. He died Feb. 27, 1945 and is buried in Buckingham Cemetery, Traer, IA. He was initially buried in the 4th Marine Division Cemetery on Iwo Jima and returned to the U.S. in 1948.

Capt. Breakenridge served with the U.S. Marine Corps in World War II. He was WIA in June 1944 and hospitalized for two months. He returned to action and was WIA in combat operations but refused evacuation. He was KIA on Volcano Island, Iwo Jima.
