Herbert Myron Light, Sr. was born Oct. 30, 1888 to Robert Barton and Edith Whitney Light. He died July 24, 1966 and is buried in Pleasantville Cemetery, Pleasantville, IA.

Maj. Light served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 3500th Base Unit. He also served in World War I.

His son, Herbert Myron Light, Jr. was born Jan. 19, 1921 to Herbert Myron (Sr.) and Ona V. Acklin Light. He died Mar. 11, 2001 and is buried in Riverside National Cemetery, Riverside, CA.

Col. Light served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps, serving as division bombardier at a U.S. bomber base in England. He led the first Liberator raid on Rome and was also on the first American bombing attack on Bremen, Germany. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal and several oak leaf clusters. He also served in Korea and Vietnam.

Frank E. Lightburn was born June 2, 1909 to Calvin L. and Marie Hummel Lightburn. He died Mar. 2, 1954 and is buried in Green Hills Memorial Park, San Pedro, CA.

Maj. Lightburn served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 21st Bomber Command Headquarters on Guam.

Charles Douglas “Chuck" Likely was born Sept. 24, 1922 to James S. and Mary C. Harding Likely. He died Dec. 2, 2004 and is buried in Ames Municipal Cemetery, Ames, IA.

Pvt. Likely served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Rush Blodgett Lincoln was born Dec. 8, 1881 to James Rush and Priscilla Lincoln. He died Feb. 25, 1977 and is buried in Iowa State University Cemetery, Ames, IA.

Gen. Lincoln served in World War II with the U.S. Army. After organizing the country’s air schools, General Lincoln was given command, in 1942, of the air service in Australia and later became deputy commander of the south Pacific army forces in New Zealand. He was subsequently island commander of New Caledonia, then returned to the U.S. in 1944 and retired that same year. He also served in World War I.

Donald Jack “Jack” Linder was born June 21, 1916 to James Winfield and Jennie Mae Smith Linder. He died Dec. 26, 1999.

Petty Officer Linder served in World War II with the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Tranquility (AH-14).

Petty Officer Linder served in World War II with the U.S. Coast Guard at Baker Island Light Station, Islesford, Maine.

Lt. Linder served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps.

Mark Clyde Lindgren was born June 27, 1927 to John and Esther Lindgren. He died Aug. 20, 2017.

Mark was a decorated Army veteran, serving in WWII, the Korean War, and the Army Reserves. One of his greatest joys was to go on the WWII Veteran’s Honor Flight in 2009.

Eugene Shipman “E.S.” Lindstrom was born Jan. 12, 1923 to Ernest Walter and Cornelia Anderson Lindstrom. He died July 14, 2017 and is buried in Forest Hill Cemetery, Madison, WI.

Cpl. Lindstrom served in World War II with the U.S. Army Air Corps 34th Station Complement Squadron and 54th Air Disarmament Squadrons, serving in Northern Ireland, France and Germany. He taught Russian, became a chemical warfare specialist and took part in the ‘American Raiders’ effort to retrieve German aviation technology.
