Robert Eugene “Bob” Gunsallus was born Dec. 26, 1920 to James A. and Lola M. Fehr Gunsallus. He died Oct. 18, 2013 and is buried in First Lutheran Cemetery, Saint Ansgar, IA.
Robert served in World War II with the U.S. Amy with the 76th General Hospital and participated in the D-Day invasion as well as the battles of Ardennes and the Bulge, for which he earned three Bronze Stars. He was presented the Liberty Medal Award from the French Government for his efforts in their liberation.
